A detainee was found dead in the custody of Kotka police in the weekend, said the police in a statement on Monday.
The law-enforcing agency members arrested the 30-year-old man late Saturday night on charge of behaving in a threatening manner and he was taken to a cell designated for drunken detainees in the Kotka police station.
Later, the man was found dead in the custody, said the police statement.
Meanwhile, the authorities concerned decided to probe into the custodial death and handed over the investigation to the Eastern Finland Police Department.
District Prosecutor Yrjö Pulkkinen has been appointed the lead investigator in the case.
