Two police officials were injured when their speeding patrol vehicle skidded off the road while chasing a suspect in the Korso area of Vantaa late Saturday night, said the police.
The Länsi-Uusimaa police said the incident took place at about 9:00 PM when the law-enforcers started to chase the suspect on the Helsinki-Turku Highway near Lohja.
Sensing police presence, the suspect driving a private car tried to escape. The police vehicle following the car at a speed of 230 kilometres per hour skidded off the road, resulting in both the police officials getting injured.
They were undergoing treatment after the accident.
A number of police patrols took part in the operation. The law-enforcers laid a spike strip on the way ahead of the car to detain the suspect but the suspect managed to escape on foot.
A police team with a dog squad later arrested the suspect, said the police.
