Number of drunk driving ups by 11.4% in Q1

The number of drunk driving recorded was 4,700 in January to March 2020 in the country, which is 11.4 per cent higher than the stipulated period of the previous year, according to Statistics Finland.

One-third of the recorded drunken driving cases were aggravated drunken driving.

A total of 1,500 aggravated drunken driving cases were recorded, which is nearly eight per cent more than in the first three months of 2019.

Basic drunken driving cases increased by 13.1 per cent. Good 60 per cent of basic drunken driving cases were caused by the use of narcotic substances.

As recently as 2013, over one-half of all drunken driving cases were aggravated drunk driving.
