President, Russian FM discuss situation in Syria

President Sauli Niinistö on Tuesday met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Mäntyniemi, said the Office of the President in a press release.

President Niinistö and Foreign Minister Lavrov had a serious conversation on the situation in Syria and Idlib, and the humanitarian distress it is causing.

President Niinistö underlined that an immediate end to the suffering of the civilians is indispensable and referred to the meeting of Presidents Putin and Erdogan on Thursday.

Niinistö and Lavrov also discussed stability of the Baltic Sea region, the Russian initiative for a P5 summit, arms control, and other international issues.
