Finland continues to support a two-state solution to be negotiated between Israel and Palestine, taking into account the needs and aspirations of both, as well as the principles of international law and agreed international parameters, according to a foreign ministry statement.

The statement was made following the proposal presented by the USA regarding Israel and Palestine on Tuesday.

Together with other EU member states, Finland will carefully study the proposal.

The ministry said it is important that the Middle East peace process stays on the international agenda. If the US proposal brings new impetus to the process, it is welcomed.

“At this point, any unilateral action contrary to international law would be counterproductive and thus needs to be avoided,” said the statement.
