48% Finns support current conscription format

Forty-eight per cent Finns would like military conscriptions in the current form, finds a survey conducted by the Finnish language daily Helsingin Sanomat.

The current form of conscription provides for compulsory conscription for males.

The survey was aimed at finding how the military service should be developed in the future.

On the other hand, about a quarter of the respondents would like conscription to apply also to women in the future.

Other respondents (12%) would support a solution that replaces the current military service with gender equality such as in the civil service. The survey was conducted by Kantar TNS.
