Sipilä talks with Indian PM over phone

Prime Minister Juha Sipilä on Monday held a telephone conversation on bilateral and international issues with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, said a government press release.

The prime ministers noted the excellent relations between the two countries during the conversation.

They pointed out that the contacts have increased especially after the prime ministers met in Mumbai last year.

New openings have been made in the trade and economic relations, notably in the energy sector.

Sipilä congratulated Modi on implementation of the Goods and Services Tax. The groundbreaking reform has positive implications also for Finnish companies operating in India.

The prime ministers also discussed the relations between the European Union and India as well as international issues, including the G20 summit and the necessity to control the climate change.
