The Finnish Postal and Logistics Union (PAU) said that it had planned to organize a demonstration in downtown Helsinki at 1:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday.
On the demonstration's Facebook page, postal workers complained that they had long been resilient, enduring poor working conditions. Redundancies and other reasons had increased the workload of mail carriers.
"The arrogance of Posti's management has gone to the extremes; it is time to gather together and direct your eyes towards the main building, where Posti's decisions are made," PAU said in a press release on Monday.
Earlier in September, postal workers in Finland took industrial action as Posti had planned to reduce the salaries of some 700 postal workers by 30 percent. The action was cut short after Sirpa Paatero, the minister overseeing majority state-owned firms, intervened.
National Conciliator Vuokko Piekkala announced a two-week postal workers' strike last Thursday, warning of delays in letter and parcel deliveries.
An estimated 10,000 postal workers would be involved in the strike.
The Finnish Post and Logistics Union (PAU) announced a nationwide strike by postal workers on Monday in a bid to speed up negotiations with their employer Posti, the main Finnish postal service, on a new collective bargaining agreement.
The strike was scheduled to last two weeks, but PAU said it may extend it to four weeks, until Dec. 8, if no agreement is reached.
