President Sauli Niinistö on Saturday said that a four or five-year term of President would be better than the existing six-year term in Finland.

Talking to a local Finnish language daily Savon Sanomat, he said that the present six-year term of the President office is exceptionally long and it should be shortened, reported national broadcaster Yle quoting the Savon Sanomat.

One person can hold the Presidential post for maximum two terms of total 12 years.

He said that a four or five-year term would be a better model. He also suggested that the limit for presidential post could be three four-years terms, if the current 12-year limit continues, or two five-year terms if the limit would be reduced to 10 years total, said the report.

Niinistö said that shortening the term is not related to the four-year term of the government, as he said that the nature of the work of president is very demanding and requires a high level of commitment.

"In opposition to general opinion, it is very time intensive job," said the report, quoting Niinistö as saying.
