Minister for improving asylum application process

Minister of the Interior Maria Ohisalo on Saturday said that Finland should rethink about the deportation of asylum seekers who already integrated and found job.

Talking to the national broadcaster Yle's Ykkösaamu ( Morning breakfast) programme, Ohisalo, also the Chair of Vihreä liitto (Green League) said she wants to improve asylum application processing in Finland, especially in its early stages, to avoid problems in the process and wait times that can stretch to several years, reported Yle.

She said that the initial stage procedure of the asylum application particularly should be improved, to avoid long waiting times and streamline the immigration authorities' work .

She reported that the government has earmarked 26 million euros over the next two years to improve the Finnish Immigration Service's processing of asylum applications, said the Yle report.

The minister also called the immigration officials for being more attentive to the legal rights of the asylum seekers.
