Two people were arrested from Tampere late Sunday night in connection with the incident of shooting two police officers in Porvoo late Saturday night, local media reported quoting National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
The NBI said that the suspects shot at police from the vehicle in which they were attempting to escape and two police personnel sustained bullet wounds in the attack, reported National Broadcaster Yle.
In a Twitter post the NBI said that police nabbed the two people involved in the shooting at about 8.30pm.
"We are currently determining the identities of the persons involved in the chase and whether they were connected to last night’s shooting. The NBI is leading the investigation," police commissioner Seppo Kolehmainen told Yle.
The police chief, however, did not disclose any information about the suspects’ nationalities or other background information. He did not say, whether the attack was an organized crime.
Earlier, police said that they suspect two men of opening fire on two policemen on Saturday night as the officers responded to a routine call in Porvoo, about 50 kilometres east of Helsinki.
NBI lead investigator Kimmo Huhta-aho at a press briefing told journalists that both the people are the men are suspected of attempted murder.
News Agency Xinhua adds: The police told the media on Sunday afternoon that the police were threatened at gunpoint upon arrival at a "routine call" and were demanded to give up their arms. When the police refused, shots were fired towards them.
In the other incident in Jyväskylä, central Finland, a man born in 1998 shot a police officer in the face with an air gun early on Saturday.
The situation of the injured police officials, however, was not critical, said police.
A police officer was killed on duty in 2016, national broadcaster Yle reported.
