The police on Saturday shot a man dead in Käpylä, a district of Helsinki on Saturday afternoon.

The incident took place at around 1:30 pm after police rushed to the spot following complaints of loud voices from an apartment at the area, said a police bulletin.

Two women fled the apartment sensing presence of the police patrol.

The man threatened the police officers with a weapon leading the police initially to use a stun gun to counter the threat. One of the two police officers fired two shots resulting death of the person on the spot in the apartment.

So far, the two women who left the apartment have not been reached, and the police have no exact information about the incident took place in the apartment before the police patrol arrived.

The fatal shooting on Saturday is the ninth stemming from on-duty arms use by Finnish police since the year 2000, reported National broadcaster Yle.

Finnish laws state that police can only use a firearm to stop activities that pose an immediate and serious danger to another person's life or health, and this only after all other options have been exhausted, said the Yle report.
