The Minister of Social Affairs and Health, Aino-Kaisa Pekonen, who is the patron of the ongoing Helsinki Pride week said that non-discrimination, fair treatment and gender equality cannot be taken for granted.
The minister will participate in the parade of Helsinki Pride Week on Saturday, said an official press release.
"Although many think that all people are equal in Finland these days, many members of gender and sexual minorities – young people in particular – experience a lot of discrimination and harassment", said the Minister.
According to the Minister, Finland is not complete yet in this respect either.
"We must work to make equality reality each day in the everyday life of us all. Each one of us deserves a safe living environment," said Pekonen, adding, "happiness and love belong to us all."
