Date expired COVID-19 vaccines administrated to 87 people in Helsinki

Two health centres in Helsinki administrated COVID-19 vaccines after expiry of date to a total of 87 people in late 2025 and early 2026, said the City of Helsinki in a press release on Thursday.
Laajasalo Health Station and Oulunkylä Health Station administrated the date expired vaccines due to human error.
The authority termed it as vaccine with reduced effectiveness and said that it does not provide full vaccine protection, but it is not otherwise harmful or dangerous.
Laajasalo Health Station has administered COVID-19 vaccines with potentially reduced effectiveness to a total of 27 clients between 12 December 2025 and 13 January 2026.
Such vaccines had been administered to 60 patients at Oulunkylä Health Station between 2 December 2025 and 7 January 2026.
The authority is contacting each person concerned personally.
The person, who received a vaccine with reduced effectiveness will be offered a new dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
The authority reviewed the situation across all health stations but no other similar case has been reported.
The total number of people who have received the COVID-19 vaccine during the current vaccination period is more than 2,700 at Laajasalo Health Station.
