1st coronavirus death of child reported in Finland

A primary school student reportedly died of coronavirus at Laihia in Ostrobothia region, reported national broadcaster Yle quoting a Finnish language newspaper Ilkka Pohjalainen on Thursday.

It is the first child death of coronavirus in Finland.

According to the report, the child admitted to hospital after being infected with coronavirus in the last weekend.

Although Director Education of the Laihia municipality Markku Laukkonen confirmed that the child was at high risk of coronavirus, it is still not clear, if the death was directly caused by the coronavirus, said the Yle report.

The Laihia school authority already informed the students and guardians in this regard through a message on the Wilma system, the report added.
