Twelve coronavirus infections were detected in the wards 9 and 11 at Laakso Hospital last week, said the City of Helsinki in a press release on Tuesday.

Six patients and six employees have been infected. Symptoms of the infected are mild. Both vaccinated and unvaccinated people are among the infected.

There is no connection between the chains of infection in the inpatient wards.

All patients and employees in the inpatient wards will be tested and both wards are currently under lockdown and no new patients will be admitted.

Nurses are using a full set of coronavirus personal protection equipment in all care situations.

The next of kin of the infected patients have been contacted and informed of the situation.

Laakso Hospital hosts inpatient wards for acute geriatrics, trauma rehabilitation, further rehabilitation of stroke patients and infection treatment. In addition, the treatment of coronavirus patients requiring hospital care has been centralised to Laakso Hospital.

The hospital has a total of 302 beds. The hospital area also includes substance abuse and psychiatric services as well as one of the imaging units of HUS, the press release added.
