The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has included Finland in the red zone this week as the number of coronavirus infections in the country increased during the recent period.

Finland was marked previously as yellow in the coronavirus map of the ECDC.

According to the ECDC, a country is marked as red, if the number of new coronavirus infections is 75 to 200 per 100,000 people and the positive test result is four percent in the last 14 days.

The ECDC recommends travellers not to visit the red countries.

Over the past four weeks, the weekly number of new COVID-19 inpatients in specialised healthcare has gone up from 60 to 109, said the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) in a joint press release on 14 October.

Between 4 and 10 October, there were a total of 109 new COVID-19 inpatients in specialised healthcare. Last week, there were 22 new inpatients in intensive care, which is the same as the week before.

On 10 October, the total number of inpatients in specialised healthcare was 124, with 29 of them being inpatients in intensive care.

Over the past two weeks, the number of inpatients has grown particularly in other wards in specialised healthcare.

On 13 October 2021, the total number of COVID-19-related deaths reported to the communicable diseases register was 1,111.
