4 more deaths, 220 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The coronavirus death toll in the country has reached 946 as four more patients- three in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS) and one in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS)- died in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 91, 964 as 220 new cases were diagnosed in that time.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country increased to 7624. Of them, 6, 259 are UK variants, 1,296 South African variants, 67 Indian variants and two Brazilian variants.

So far, 604 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 102 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 94 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), 84 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), and 62 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 101 coronavirus patients, including 18 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the country.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,661 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
