The Palestinian embassy in Britain officially opened on Monday in London after Britain announced the recognition of the State of Palestine in September last year, reported Xinhua.

The embassy, formerly the Palestinian mission in Britain, is located in the Hammersmith area of west London.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Palestinian Ambassador to Britain Husam Zomlot described the establishment of the embassy as a "historic moment," saying it "marked a profound milestone" in British-Palestinian relations.

On his X account, Zomlot said the opening of the embassy is "a piece of Palestine on British soil" and "a symbol of peace, Sumud (steadfastness or perseverance in Arabic), dignity, and our people's enduring pursuit of justice and freedom."

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Sept. 21 that his government has recognized the State of Palestine, calling for a shift back to a two-state solution. The next day, the Palestinian flag was hoisted outside the former Palestinian mission in London.
