German prosecutors have accused a man who drove his car into crowds of people on one of Berlin's main thoroughfares of one case of murder and 31 cases of attempted murder, reported dpa.

The perpetrator "deliberately drove a vehicle" into two groups of people - a first group near the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and a second group of students and teachers one block away - said Sebastian Büchner, a spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office.

A teacher that was a part of the group was killed in the incident and dozens of other people were injured.
