German prosecutors said on Friday they were investigating a number of army reservists involved in an extreme right-wing paramilitary group following raids on premises in three different states, reported dpa.

The prosecutors based in Lueneburg in the state of Lower Saxony said they were looking into nine suspects, six of whom are military reservists. The suspects are all men aged between 37 and 53.

Searches at premises linked to seven of the suspects on Wednesday found weapons and ammunition, a spokeswoman said.

According to the Lower Saxony Interior Ministry, the searches were conducted in Lower Saxony, North Rhine Westphalia and Berlin. The precise locations were not revealed.

Some 200 police and special forces officers were involved in the raids, which were conducted under the leadership of the Lower Saxony crime office.

A series of extreme far-right cases among members of the armed forces has made headlines in recent years and cast a pall over the German military.

Last year, one company within the elite KSK special forces was disbanded completely over extremist activity.
