Environmental campaigners renewed their climate protection protests in Berlin by blocking the entrance to the German Farmers' Association on Tuesday, before moving on to the headquarters of the country's two major political parties.

Several dozen protesters sat in front of the entrance of the Farmers' Association building in the centre of the city. Protest organizers say several demonstrators had glued their hands to the doors.

An alliance of campaign groups, including Extinction Rebellion, claimed the association was only "concerned with the fat agricultural corporations," which they blame for destroying the soil and creating carbon emissions. Banners at the protest proclaimed "Time for Change."

Bernhard Kruesken, the head of the German Farmers' Association, responded by condemning the "shouting and silly rhymes" of the protesters. "We can do nothing with this abysmally low level of argument," he said.

At some point the demonstrators splattered with red paint - or fake blood - the headquarters of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative CDU party. Police said they took the personal details of 40 participants.

Demonstrations with hundreds of participants marched not only on the CDU but also the headquarters of the centre-left Social Democrats.

Further blockades of roads, intersections and buildings have been announced for the rest of the week.

The week of protests by environmental groups in Berlin began on Monday, with delays and fewer participants than expected. Around 300 people staged a sit-in at the Brandenburg Gate which was dispersed by the police. Several dozen campaigners set up tents and a stage in Berlin’s Monbijou Park, where there were minor scuffles with the police and some arrests.
