President Alexander Stubb on Sunday awarded 38 mothers with First Class Order of the White Rose with Gold Cross for their significant contributions to parenting, particularly recognising their merits in raising children and promoting family life.

The mothers got the award at a ceremony at the House of the Estates in Helsinki marking the Mother's Day jointly organised by the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare and the Ministry of Social Welfare and Health, said the President Office in press release.

First Lady Suzanne Innes-Stubb was also present on the occasion.

Mothers from different backgrounds received the award for their works in own family and in various organisations as well. The oldest recipient of the award this year was 91 years old and the youngest was 44 years old.

Minister of Social Security Sanni Grahn-Laasonen and Mirjam Kalland, Chairman of the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare spoke on the occasion.

Finland has been awarding Mother's Day medal with the White Roses since 1946.
