Finland sees €735m trade deficit in July

The trade balance was in deficit of EUR 735 million in July 2026, according to the preliminary statistics of international trade in goods released by Finnish Customs on Wednesday.

In January-July, the aggregated deficit amounted to EUR 1.7 billion.

In July 2025, the trade balance was EUR 1.3 billion in surplus and in January-July of the same year, the aggregated surplus was EUR 616 million.

According to the statistics, value of exports to EU member states increased by 3.8 per cent and decreased to non-EU countries by 27.2 per cent in July compared to the same month the previous year.

The volume of exports to EU countries decreased by 7.5 per cent and to non-EU countries by 35.1 per cent during the same time.

The value of Finnish exports decreased by 13.8 per cent in July year-on-year. The value of Finnish exports in July was EUR 6.5 billion. Export volume decreased by 24.4 per cent and export prices increased by 14.0 per cent year-on-year.

The export of a cruise ship in the reference month of July 2025 significantly affected the percentage change in the value of exports. When the change in the value of exports is calculated excluding the cruise ship export of the comparison year, the value of exports increased by 13.8 percent in July.

The volume of imports increased by 10.3 per cent in July and import prices increased by 7.3 per cent compared to July 2025. The value of Finnish imports increased by 15.7 per cent. Value of imports was EUR 7.2 billion.

In January-July 2026, the aggregated value of exports increased by 10.3 per cent and the value of imports by 15.9 per cent year-on-year.

In January-July 2026, year-over-year change of the aggregated average for export volume was +1.9 per cent. The corresponding figure for import volume was +7.8 per cent.
