New car registration rises by 26% in August

A total of 6,643 new passenger cars were registered in August 2026, which was 26 per cent more than one year earlier, according to Statistics Finland.

In all, 10,209 new vehicles were registered in August. First registrations increased by 10 per cent from the corresponding month of the previous year.

In January to August period of 2026, a total of 49,948 new passenger cars were registered, which was 4 per cent more than one year earlier.

Of first-time registered passenger cars in August, 52 per cent were fully electric.

The number of their registrations was 3,427, or 77 per cent higher than one year earlier.

In all, 2,405 new petrol-fuelled passenger cars were registered in August, which was 27 per cent more than one year earlier.
