Finland sees €655m trade deficit in February

The trade balance was in deficit of EUR 655 million in February 2026, according to the preliminary statistics of international trade in goods released by Finnish Customs on Thursday.
In January- February, the aggregated deficit amounted to EUR 1.2 billion.
In February 2025, the trade balance was EUR 250 million in deficit and in January-February of the same year, the aggregated deficit was EUR 515 million.
According to the statistics, the value of Finnish exports decreased by 3.1 per cent in February year-on-year. The value of Finnish exports in February was EUR 5.6 billion. Export volume decreased by 5.1 per cent and export prices increased by 2.2 per cent year-on-year.
The volume of imports increased by 5.7 per cent in February but import prices declined by 0.5 per cent compared to February 2025. The value of Finnish imports increased by 3.7 per cent. Value of imports was EUR 6.2 billion.
In January-February 2026, the aggregated value of exports increased by 0.2 per cent and the value of imports by 5.8 per cent year-on-year.
Year-over-year change of export volume in the cumulative average was minus 3.2 per cent. The corresponding figure for import volume was +7.5 per cent.
Value of exports to EU member states decreased by 1.8 per cent, and decreased to non-EU countries by 4.9 per cent in February compared to the same month the previous year.
The volume of exports to EU countries decreased by 4.1 per cent and to non-EU countries by 7.2 per cent during the same time.
Calculated from the beginning of the year, the value of exports to EU countries decreased by 2.0 per cent but increased to non-EU countries by 3.3 per cent.
The volume of exports to EU member states decreased by 4.3 per cent, and the volume of exports to non-EU countries decreased by 0.6 per cent calculated according to the year-over-year change of volume in the cumulative average.
The volume of imports from EU member states increased by 2.6 per cent and from non-EU countries by 10.0 per cent year-over-year.
The volume of imports from EU member states increased by 3.1 per cent and from non-EU countries by 13.0 per cent calculated according year-over-year change of volume in the cumulative average.
