Finland sees €286m trade deficit in Nov

The trade balance showed a deficit of EUR 286 million in November 2025, according to the international trade in goods statistics released by Finnish Customs on Thursday.

In January-November 2025, the trade balance had accumulated a deficit of EUR 564 million.

The aggregate trade surplus by commodity group increased for industrial machinery and equipment and forest industry products.

The deficit increased for ores and metal scrap, chemicals and related products, foods and beverages and electrical machinery and equipment, but decreased for crude oil and refined petroleum products.

According to the Statistics, the value of Finnish exports of goods decreased by 2.0 per cent year-on-year in November.

The value of Finnish exports was EUR 6.0 billion. Export volume increased by 1.3 per cent and export prices declined by 2.7 per cent year-on-year.

The value of imports increased by 2.6 per cent in November to EUR 6.3 billion. Import prices declined by 0.3 per cent and import volume increased by 5.3 per cent compared to November 2024.

In January-November, the total value of exports increased by 3.3 per cent and the value of imports by 0.3 per cent.

Change of export volume during the latest 12 months was 4.2 per cent (12-month moving average December 2024 – November 2025).

The corresponding figure for import volume was 2.4 per cent.

The terms of trade declined in November compared to the corresponding month of 2024 as export prices decreased more rapidly than import prices. The point figure in November was 98.5, while it was 100.9 in November 2024. The terms of trade declined also from October 2025.

The value of exports of industrial supplies declined by 6.4 per cent in November. The value of exports of capital goods increased by 0.7 per cent year-on-year. The value of exports of fuels and lubricants increased by 5.7 per cent. The value of exports of consumer goods increased by 9.7 per cent and the value of exports of food and beverages by 2.2 per cent. The value of exports of transport equipment and parts declined by 8.2 per cent.

The value of imports of industrial supplies increased by 7.8 per cent in November, and the value of imports of capital goods increased by 18.6 per cent year-on-year. The value of imports of transportation equipment and their parts declined by 11.4 per cent. The value of imports of fuels and lubricants decreased by 17.5 per cent. The value of imports of food and beverages decreased by 1.5 per cent, and the value of imports of consumer goods decreased by 3.5 per cent.

The value of exports to EU member states decreased by 4.3 per cent, and exports to other countries grew by 1.2 per cent in November. Imports from EU countries decreased by 1.7 per cent, but imports from non-EU countries increased by 8.7 per cent in November.

In January-November, total value of exports to EU countries increased by 0.7 per cent and exports to countries outside the EU by 6.8 per cent. In the same period, import value from EU countries increased by 0.4 per cent, and increased from countries outside the EU by 0.2 per cent.

Earlier this month, the Customs in its preliminary statistics said that the trade balance was in deficit of EUR 295 million in November 2025.
