The Port of Helsinki on Monday published a price list for 2018 which includes new criteria that offer fee discounts for vessels based on reduced environmental impacts.

The discount is available to those who implement measures that reduce vessels’ environmental impacts: lowered air emissions, reduction of noise while in the harbour, or other investments that improve environmental efficiency, said a press release.

“As we once again emphasise the importance of managing environmental impacts, we would like to thank our customers for good operations and offer them financial opportunities to develop their operations even further,” said Port of Helsinki Quality and Environmental Manager Aino Rantanen.

A liner traffic vessel can benefit from a maximum discount of 3 per cent on the feed, if it falls into one of the specified categories.

The categories include low emissions (based on the vessel’s ESI-certificate score, for example), the vessel’s output noise level while in the passenger harbour being below 105 dB (based on confirmed and measured output noise levels while docked), and investments made in the vessel or innovations made that improve environmental efficiency, energy efficiency or noise abatement (based on a report on the change with calculations/measurements of its impact).
