New car registration drops by 15.9% in Jan

A total of 13,932 new motor vehicles were registered in January, of which 9,273 were automobiles, according to Statistics Finland.

First registrations decreased by 8.5 per cent from the corresponding month of the previous year.

In January the number of new passenger cars registered was 7,881, which was 15.9 per cent down from the year before.

The share of new electric passenger cars was 12.6 per cent and plug-in hybrid electric cars 21.0 per cent.

A total of 2,641 new electric and plug-in hybrid electric cars were registered, which was 22.6 per cent up from the year before.

The numbers are exclusive of the vehicles on the Åland Islands.

The most common passenger car makes first registered in January 2022 were Toyota, Volvo and Kia.

The most common passenger car models were Toyota Corolla, Toyota RAV4, Toyota C-HR, Toyota Yaris and Volvo XC60.
