New car registration increases by 48% in April

A total of 17,623 new motor vehicles were registered in April 2021, of which 10,241 were automobiles, according to Statistics Finland.

First registrations increased by 35.1 per cent from the corresponding month of the previous year.

In April the number of new passenger cars registered was 8,840, which was 47.8 per cent up from the year before, but compared to April 2019, passenger car registrations decreased by 9.3 per cent.

The share of new electric passenger cars was 6.9 per cent and plug-in hybrid electric 24.1 per cent.

A total of 2,746 new electric and plug-in hybrid electric cars were registered, which was 187 per cent up from the year before.

In the January to April period of 2021 a total of 64,852 vehicles were first registered. Compared to the year before, there was an increase of 11.3 per cent.

The number of passenger cars first registered in the January to April period was 36,819, which is 7.5 per cent up from the year before.

The most common passenger car makes first registered in the January to April period were Toyota, Skoda and Volkswagen.
