New car registration drops 13% in January

A total of 15,227 new motor vehicles were registered in January, of which 11,033 were automobiles, according to the Statistics Finland.

The number of first registrations in the month declined 6.8 per cent year on year.

In January, the number of new passenger cars registered was 9,373, posting a 13.2 per cent drop year on year.

The share of new electric passenger cars was 3.8 per cent and of plug-in hybrid electric cars 19.2 per cent.

A total of 2,153 new electric and plug-in hybrid electric cars were registered, which marked a 49.2 per cent rise up year on year.

The numbers are exclusive of the vehicles on the Åland Islands.

The most common passenger car makes first registered in January 2021 were Toyota, Skoda, and Volvo.

The most common passenger car models were Skoda Octavia, Toyota Yaris, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Rav4, and Volvo XC40.
