The government on Thursday submitted its proposal to the Parliament regarding the Finnish pension to United Kingdom following possible withdrawal of UK from the EU (Brexit) without an agreement.

The act is due to enter into force in autumn 2019 but it would be applied as of the date of the withdrawal, if the UK withdraws from the EU without an agreement, said a government press release.

By means of the act, Finland prepares for a no-deal Brexit. The act will guarantee a one-year protection period for Finnish national pension recipients residing in the UK.

If the UK withdraws from the EU (Brexit) without an agreement, the recipients of Finnish national pension residing in the UK would be paid national pension for one year after the withdrawal, said an official press release.

This so called protection period of one year is the same as for national pension recipients moving to any country outside the EU.

At the end of 2018, Finnish national pension was paid to 320 persons residing in the UK. Their average pension was €105.22 per month.
