The Vihreä liitto (Finnish Green League) on Saturday re-elected Sofia Virta as its Chairperson at the party convention held in Hämeenlinna.

She was elected un-opposed as there was no aspirant for the post of the party Chief this year.

Addressing the convention, the party Chair strongly criticised the four-party alliance government for its austerity measures in basic sectors, which she termed as a move to tarnish the foundation of the country as the welfare state.

She said that the debt should be brought under control but cuts in social security, education and the environment sectors could not be accepted.

Virta was elected party Chair for the first time on June 10, 2023 replacing Maria Ohisalo, who was elected party Chairperson in June 2019.

The 34-year-old leader has been discharging her duty as a lawmaker from southwest Finland since 2019.
