Varkaus murder victim was suspect´s girlfriend

The woman, who was stabbed to death allegedly by a man in Varkaus on Monday, was the girlfriend of the suspect, said police on Tuesday.

Police also said that the alleged murderer was a local man of 50 years old.

They, however, did not divulge the identity of the deceased but said that the victim and the suspect were in a relationship.

Police interrogated the suspect and are investigating into the case as murder.

Earlier on Monday, the woman was killed when the man allegedly attacked her with a sharp weapon in Varkaus, a municipality under North Savo region.

The incident took place at about 4:30 p.m. inside an apartment at Jäppiläntie area in the locality.

Police also found a man, who informed the emergency services, in the house and suspected him of the murder.

Police arrested the suspect from the spot.
