Swedish govt presents new digital strategy

The Swedish government presented a digitalization strategy to make Sweden more competitive, grow jobs and the economy for a socially and economically sustainable development, according to a statement issued by the government on its website Thursday.

"With this strategy, the government is committed to leading the digital transformation," said Peter Eriksson, minister for housing and digital development, in the statement.

The strategy's five goals include expanding infrastructure to ensure fast broadband and mobile services for all, creating conditions that enable digitally driven innovations, and increasing skills among the population so that everyone can develop and use their digital competencies.

"Jobs will disappear. But it is not realistic to continue producing and working as before or putting the brakes on this development by introducing a robot tax, which will stymie innovation. Instead, we need to be part of and lead and drive the development. Then we can affect how technology is changing society. This is about many new jobs and businesses," Eriksson said.

A digitalization council with a secretariat has already been established at the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority to help put the strategy into practice, the statement read.
