$6.9m lost to scams linked to fake immigration authority in Singapore

At least 8.8 million Singapore dollars (6.89 million U.S. dollars) have been lost to scammers posing as Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers or offering fake services to help applicants obtain permanent residency, the authorities said on Friday, reported Xinhua.

The ICA and police said in a joint statement that since January 2026, at least 117 cases involving scammers impersonating ICA officers have been reported, with losses of at least 8.4 million Singapore dollars.

Meanwhile, at least 31 reports involving fake ICA emails in response to permanent resident applications have been received, with losses of at least 400,000 Singapore dollars.
