A power outage struck eastern Cuba on Thursday, affecting provinces from Holguin to Guantanamo, the National Electric Union said, reported Xinhua.

The union said on social media that the blackout was caused by fluctuations in transmission lines, leading to the disconnection of several generating units.

Cuba has struggled to import fuel and repair its aging power plants due to the impact of U.S. sanctions. Since October 2024, Cuba has suffered several nationwide blackouts due to power facility failures, hurricanes and other factors.
