Trump adds condition to normalize relations with Israel to signed Saudi nuke deal

U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday attached a new condition to the U.S.-Saudi civilian nuclear agreement signed one day earlier, saying the deal will move forward only if Saudi Arabia normalizes relations with Israel through the Abraham Accords, reported Xinhua.

The deal "will be approved" but "is totally subject to Saudi Arabia joining the very respected and successful Abraham Accords," Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.

U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright and his Saudi counterpart signed the agreement on Wednesday, sparking criticism from Israel, and it is expected to face close scrutiny in Congress.

Trump also stressed that there will be "no enrichment" of nuclear material under the agreement.

The Abraham Accords, launched by Trump in his first term, led to the normalization agreements between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco in 2020. Trump has long expected an expansion of the accords. Saudi Arabia has so far resisted joining them.
