Body of missing girl recovered after man found dead in Sydney river

Police divers recovered the body of a missing girl in the river in the inner-western Sydney suburb of Concord on Saturday, reported Xinhua.

A search operation commenced after the body of a man was found shortly before 11:45 a.m. on Saturday in waters off Bayview Park, Concord, police in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) said in a statement.

Officers were told the man had been seen in a small boat with a child shortly before his body was discovered, NSW police said.

A command post was established at the scene and a search operation commenced. The missing girl's body was located at about 5:30 p.m.

Information provided indicated the man was in his 40s, while the girl was believed to be aged six or seven, NSW police said.

Officers were providing support to the child's mother as inquiries continued, the police said.
