U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday appointed Bill Pulte, the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, as acting director of national intelligence, reported Xinhua.
Trump said in a Truth Social post that Pulte "has deep experience managing the most sensitive matters in America, the safety and soundness of the Markets."
He added that Pulte would remain director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency and chairman of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac while serving in the acting role.
Pulte will replace Tulsi Gabbard, who announced on May 22 that she was resigning from her post after her husband was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer.
The director of national intelligence is responsible for the oversight and direction of 18 elements of the country's intelligence community.
