Dozens of Palestinians, relatives of prisoners held in Israeli jails, staged a demonstration in Gaza City on Monday to protest the treatment of detainees and call on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to intervene, reported Xinhua.
The demonstrators gathered outside the ICRC headquarters in western Gaza at the invitation of Palestinian factions. They waved Palestinian flags, held photos of prisoners, and carried banners demanding the protection of detainees and an end to what they described as medical neglect and torture in Israeli prisons.
Hazem Qassem, spokesperson for the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), said during the protest that Palestinian prisoners are subjected to "serious violations," including starvation, torture, and assaults.
Qassem urged the international community and human rights organizations to take effective measures to pressure Israel to halt such violations, stressing that the issue of prisoners should remain a priority on both national and international agendas.
According to Palestinian authorities, more than 9,400 Palestinians, including women and children, are currently held in Israeli prisons.
Earlier on Monday, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa met in Ramallah with Julien Lerisson, head of the ICRC delegation in Israel and the Palestinian territories, according to a statement issued by Mustafa's office.
The statement said the two sides discussed efforts to address conditions facing Palestinian prisoners, including allegations of physical and psychological abuse, inadequate medical care, and malnutrition.
Mustafa also called on the ICRC to expand humanitarian interventions in the Gaza Strip, including increasing the number of field hospitals, facilitating the entry of medical supplies, and supporting the evacuation of wounded Palestinians for treatment abroad.
2 Palestinians killed in Israeli airstrike in S. Gaza
Two Palestinians, including a child, were killed and 20 others injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting a camp for displaced people in the southern Gaza Strip on Monday.
Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense in Gaza, told Xinhua that Hanan Mahmoud, 31, and six-year-old Menna Abu Labda were killed when an Israeli airstrike hit the "Ghaith Camp" in the Al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis.
Basal said 20 others, including children and women, were wounded in the attack, some seriously, and taken to hospitals for treatment.
Eyewitnesses reported that an Israeli helicopter fired two missiles at several tents in the camp, destroying and setting fire to a number of them, resulting in casualties and injuries.
In a separate incident, two Palestinians were injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting the home of the Bashiti family in the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, according to a statement issued by Al-Aqsa Hospital.
Also on Monday, the Government Media Office in Gaza warned that the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip is deteriorating to unprecedented levels due to Israel's obstruction of sufficient aid deliveries.
In a press statement, the office said that the enclave is suffering a severe and worsening shortage of basic food supplies amid a widespread collapse in food security, driven by continued Israeli restrictions on the entry of essential goods and the disruption of humanitarian and commercial aid flows.
According to the Gaza-based health authorities, 904 Palestinians have been killed, and 2,713 others have been injured since the ceasefire agreement came into effect in October 2025.
