French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday on social media platform X that the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and its carrier strike group had arrived in waters near Cyprus, reported Xinhua.

Macron made the remarks while visiting Cyprus earlier in the day at the invitation of Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, alongside Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

He said France had immediately taken measures in solidarity with Cyprus after the country was struck by several drones and missiles, adding that France had deployed the frigate Languedoc and a Mistral air defense unit to the area.

Macron also said he would visit the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier before returning to Paris.
