The death toll from a plane crash in the Bolivian city of El Alto on Friday has risen to 22, including four children, Health Minister Marcela Flores confirmed on Saturday, reported Xinhua.
Flores said that 37 people were injured, with several in serious condition, and all have been transferred to public and private medical centers in El Alto and La Paz. The health system activated emergency protocols to provide immediate and specialized care.
The crash occurred Friday night when a Bolivian Air Force Hercules C-130 military aircraft veered off the runway upon landing at El Alto International Airport and collided with public roads. Dozens were injured and about 20 vehicles, including public transport, were destroyed.
The plane, arriving from Santa Cruz, was transporting millions of dollars in cash from the Central Bank of Bolivia. Footage from the scene showed the destroyed aircraft, with opened boxes and banknotes scattered around the impact site. Several people were detained for allegedly attempting to take the money.
