Iran deploys advanced Khorramshahr-4 missile at underground site ahead of US talks

Iran has deployed one of its largest missiles at an underground facility unveiled Wednesday, reported Xinhua, quoting Iran's Fars News Agency on Thursday.

Fars said the Khorramshahr-4 long-range ballistic missile was among the operational assets displayed during the opening of the site, which is operated by the Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The agency, close to the IRGC, described the Khorramshahr-4 as one of the country's advanced medium- to long-range ballistic missiles, with an estimated range of about 2,000 kilometers.

The warhead is capable of carrying more than one ton of high-explosive payload, the report said, making it "one of the largest warhead configurations developed within Iran."

During last June's 12-day conflict, Iran fired the Khorramshahr-4 at Israel in retaliation for U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear-related targets.

Iran and the United States are scheduled to hold talks on Friday in Muscat, Oman, amid a recent U.S. military buildup in the Middle East and Tehran's stepped-up preparations.

"Iran will not miss any opportunity to secure its national interests and maintain regional peace through diplomacy," Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei wrote Thursday on the social media platform X.
