Saudi Arabia, Qatar sign high-speed railway deal to link capitals

Saudi Arabia and Qatar signed an agreement for a high-speed electric passenger railway project that will connect Riyadh and Doha, according to a report by the Saudi Press Agency, said Xinhua.

The high-speed railway line, set to be completed in six years, will span 785 km and connect King Salman International Airport in Riyadh with Hamad International Airport in Doha.

With speeds exceeding 300 km per hour, the rail line will reduce travel time between the two capitals to around two hours.

The project is expected to serve 10 million passengers annually and generate 30,000 jobs across both countries, the report said.

The agreement was signed during Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's visit to Riyadh.
