Man held for attempting to break into U.S. consulate in Istanbul

A person was detained Thursday while trying to sneak into the car park of the U.S. consulate in Türkiye's largest city Istanbul, reported Xinhua, quoting local media.

The incident happened at around 12:00 p.m. local time (0900 GMT) at the consulate's building in the Sariyer district on the European side of the city, said the NTV broadcaster, noting that the man was allegedly mentally unstable.

The NTV broadcaster released several photographs showing police officers handcuffing the man lying on the ground and throwing him into a police car.

The suspect was taken to police headquarters for questioning, it said, without revealing further details.
