Gas accident kills 9 in north China

Nine people were killed in a gas spurt accident Thursday in the city of Ordos, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, according to local authorities, reported Xinhua.

Around 3:40 p.m. Thursday, a high-pressure gas spurt occurred at a workshop in an industrial park in Hangjin Banner, which resulted in multiple workers falling from elevated positions, according to the emergency management bureau of Ordos.

The accident claimed the lives of eight workers immediately, with four others sustaining injuries. One of the injured succumbed while receiving medical treatment.

Shortly after the accident, local emergency management workers, firefighters, and medical staff joined the rescue operations.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
