A Tanzanian cabinet minister told parliament on Monday that 89 districts out of 184 districts in the country are facing food shortages, reported Xinhua.

Minister of Agriculture Hussein Bashe said the National Food Reserve Agency has already distributed 75,282 tons of relief food supplies to the affected districts.

Tabling the Ministry of Agriculture budget estimates for the 2023/2024 financial year, Bashe told the House in the capital Dodoma that the food shortage was caused by poor harvests in the 2021/2022 farming season due to climate change.

"Poor harvests of food crops resulted in skyrocketing food prices in some parts of the country," said the minister.
