At least 39 people died Monday night in a fire at a migrant detention center in Ciudad Juarez in northern Mexico, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador confirmed Tuesday, reported Xinhua.

The president detailed that the migrants at the makeshift migrant center located near the Mexico-U.S. border were mostly from Central American countries and Venezuela, although authorities had yet to determine the identities of the victims.

Up to 68 people were housed in the center and 29 remained in "delicate, serious" condition, according to a report by immigration authorities.

Lopez Obrador also said that the Attorney General's Office has initiated relevant investigations.
