At least 10 people were killed and three others injured after a fire broke out in a house in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police and rescue officials said on Friday, reported Xinhua.

The fire erupted due to an electric short circuit at the wooden house located in the Pattan area of Lower Kohistan district of the province early Friday morning, Farman Ali, an official at the district's emergency rescue service told local media.

He said that the fire caused the roof of the house to collapse, trapping the family members under the debris, adding that women and children were among the victims.

At least eight to 10 cows also perished in the huge fire that engulfed the adjoining farm as well.

Following the incident, rescue teams along with fire vehicles and ambulances reached the site and started rescue operations immediately, and shifted the injured people to a nearby hospital.

Rescue operation is underway as one person is reportedly still trapped under the debris, said the police, adding that local residents are also taking part in the rescue efforts.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
